Research areas:
The research group leaded by Roberto Scotta is mainly involved in innovation in the civil construction sector and in particular in issues related to anti-seismic structures and the integrated seismic and energy adaptation of the existing building. Over the years, Roberto Scotta and his research team have carried out researches facing several aspects of structural engineering:

  • Durability of reinforced concrete structures
  • Non-linear numerical modeling of masonry and concrete structures
  • static and seismic safety assessment of existing and historical buildings
  • timber structures, in particular X-Lam ones (the research activity led to the obtaining of two international patents for innovative connection techniques);
  • mixed steel-concrete structures, in particular mixed reticular frame structures and mixed precast panel structures
  • hybrid wood-concrete and wood-steel structures: light-frame construction technologies have been developed that combine the advantages of different materials with the high speed erection and low construction cost
  • anti-seismic structures made by casting reinforced concrete into insulating formwork
  • technologies for integrated seismic and energy retrofitting of existing buildings
  • seismic safety of non-structural elements (activity that led to the development of an innovative experimental setup for seismic tests on false ceilings)
  • anti-seismic structures with lightweight concrete walls (AAC)
  • FSI: in particular dynamic interaction for the purposes of seismic safety assessment of suspended water reservoirs and evaluation of aeroelastic effects in tall buildings
  • inflatable flexible constructions combined with flexible photovoltaic panels and carbon fiber tapes (within the European project Ulites).

Many of the previous research activities can be classified as applied, having been carried out in the context of collaborations requested to the research group by primary national and international Companies interested to the development of specific research topics or innovative products.
