The Department follows traditional methods for training technicians for expertise in the fields of transport systems, hydraulics and civil architecture, each with their related cultural heritage.
The Department came into being in the early 17th century and developed throughout the 19th and 20th centuries until the present day.
This basic training is based on the work of scientists of European stature, such as Giovanni Poleni, who worked during the domination of Padova by the Serenissima Republic of Venice (18th century) and Simone Stratico, active in the 18th-19th centuries.
