Curriculum
Full Professor in "Design Tools and Methods of Industrial Engineering" at the University of Padova - School of Engineering. He holds the courses of "Engineering Drawing" and "Lab. of Geometric Modeling" for the Bachelor and Master Degrees in Mechanical Engineering, and “How to control functionality in product life-cycle using geometrical specifications” for the PhD School in Mechatronics and Product Innovation Engineering. In 1988 he graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Padova, after attending the University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA) for one year. From 1989 to 1991 he was employed in Tecnomare S.p.A. (Venice), in the Research and Development Division, taking part in different projects for both the Italian and the European Space Agencies (ASI and ESA). From 1991 to 1998 was Assistant Professor and from 1998 to 2006 Associate Professor at the University of Padova.
He is currently the Chairman of the UNI (the Italian Standardization Body) Technical Committee 047 “TPD e GPS – Geometrical product documentation, specification and verification”, coordinating the WG "Technical drawings and geometrical specification”, and attends as an expert the Technical Committee ISO/TC 213 “Dimensional and geometrical product specifications and verification”. He was former member of the execute board of the "International Journal on Interactive Design and Manufacturing" (IJIDeM), published by Springer Verlag. Since 1993 he is member of the Board of the Italian "Associazione Nazionale Disegno di Macchine" (ADM).
His main research interests focus on: Development of methodologies, techniques and tools for Reverse Engineering, with applications to the industrial, biomedical and cultural heritage fields; Geometric Product Specification (ASME-GD&T e ISO-GPS) and development of Computer-Aided Tolerancing (CAT) methods and tools; functional specification and characterization of surfaces; development of tools and methods for geometric modeling, design and virtual prototyping; Knowledge Aided Design (KAD) methodologies and applications; Design and product development methodologies in Additive Manufacturing.
